About the Author
Steven Hernandez MBA, HCISPP, CISSP, CSSLP, SSCP, CAP, CISA, is a Chief Information Security Officer practicing in the U.S. Federal Government in Washington DC. Hernandez has over seventeen years of information assurance experience in a variety of fields including international healthcare, international heavy manufacturing, large finance organizations, educational institutions, and government agencies. Steven is an Honorary Professor at California State University San Bernardino and affiliate faculty at the National Information Assurance Training and Education Center located at Idaho State University. Through his academic outreach, he has lectured over the past decade on numerous information assurance topics including risk management, information security investment, and the implications of privacy decisions to graduate and postgraduate audiences. In addition to his credentials from (ISC)2, Hernandez also holds six U.S. Committee for National Security Systems certifications ranging from systems security to organizational risk management. Steven also volunteers service to (ISC)2’s Government Advisory Board and Executive Writers Bureau. Steven enjoys relaxing and traveling with his wife, whose patience and support have been indispensable in his numerous information assurance pursuits.

Horribly dry and hard to read. Wish it had more anecdotes and Case studies. If I pass the test after reading it, I may come give it a better rating. The chapters should be shorter or have quizzes at the end of subchapters because I would read 20 pages at a time and then not remember everything on the Chapter Test because it had been several days since reading the content at the beginning of the long chapter (75 pages per chapter...).
This book has mixed reviews but I found it well written and on point. This subject matter is very specialized. If you have some foundation knowledge of information security/privacy best practices this book will be a great resource. If you lack infosec experience, I suggest you start with a CISSP review guide.
This was a good book that explains healthcare compliance information and terms with security concepts. I wish there were more study questions after each chapter.
The HCISSP CBK Edited by Steven Hernandez, is by far one of the worst Healthcare Information Security books I have read. To be honest with you, I WANT MY MONEY BACK. I have purchased over 1,000+ books from Amazon. Keep in mind I am in the Information Technology Healthcare Sector. Below are my problems with this book.1. The Chapters are extremely long. My biggest problem. THE REVIEW QUESTIONS ARE HORRIBLE.2. The book is extremely dry and boring. The only way I could read this book was when I was fresh. Do not read this book first thing in the morning, or after working a long day. You will fall asleep.3. Although the book does a good job of providing information on the CBK domain. The content within the BOOK IS JUST poor. TThis book is a major disappointment. Read this book only if you have years of experience in the HealthCare Information technology4. If you are planning on taking the HCISPP Certification save you money and time. Do what I did, go take the Healthcare Information Technology Exam by CompTIA. Honestly you will learn the same information. But more important, the books for this certification are much better than the Official (ISC) Guide.5. ISC, honestly I am shocked with your poor attempt to get into the Healthcare Information security sector. You had a good run with the CISSP. If you want Information Security Professional such as myself to keep up with our CISSP cert, or take other certs by ISC. Please do a better job next time. Use a book that’s worth our time as professional. “By far this is the worst technical book I have read in years.â€6. Another Major Issue I have with this book. “Using Websites as sources.†This book should have been a free PDF document provided as a favor for calling ISC for future course information.Don’t waste your time with this book. Hopefully someone can put together a better book.And Yes I have my CISSP..
Cut and dry, however it is streamlined and straight to the point. Excellent for review! Highly recommend.
This book is acceptable if you are looking to pass the exam. However it is was very poorly edited. If are expecting a Shon Harris production, this is far from it. Good luck!
This HCISPP book doesn't contain a lot of practice questions to help you prepare for the exam. Using external study guides and practice exam questions from a CISSP book is recommended.
This book is very easy to read - and it doesn’t hurt that the print is big.
