This isn't going to be like my other review of this author's previous book. This one is great value for money except for the fact that after reading it you become a little depressed when you have to accept the fact that you cannot clone him and keep him around your shop 24 hours a day. I dare you to find a better book about this stuff. I literally dare you.UPDATE:(6/4/2014)I'm going to be a bit harsh and deduct one star from my previous 5 star rating because upon giving this book a second read I DID discover one "small" thing that I think is significant enough to hamper a reader of this book in their attempts to fully grasp what is being explained. If you jump to chapter 10 there's a perfect example you can use to follow my logic. At the bottom left corner on page 76, Greg begins to explain a topic of particular interest to most tuners (especially myself)which is the process of populating the volumetric efficiency table, without the luxury of a reference base map to use as a start point.Now while I find no fault with the actual information that is presented, I do think that the principles would be much easier to grasp and to follow if the information coincided with what is displayed in the table snapshots next to what is being read. So for example on page 78 the 3rd column of text begins to explain where to apply an RPM specific correction to an entire column and it goes on to advise using this correction value to populate all of the values in the VE table above this same engine speed. Meanwhile there are a whopping FOUR snapshot table illustrations surrounding this body of text but not one of them shows an example of what you should see after applying these corrections. Therefore even though both the book and the illustrations give excellent information, The illustrations don't reinforce exactly what you're reading but rather attempt to tell their own story in their own way. Even if this approach was decided upon by the author as the best way to present the information, I still think that certain topics such as the one in my example should be carefully illustrated with graphic tables to reinforce what is being read by providing an easy to follow graphic example.
I believe this book is worthy of such a rating if you are reading it with low to moderate knowledge. I found it to have some good information and pointers for the intermediate tuner but that is not who this book was geared around. I believe that if you are rating this book below a 4, you are either in need of Greg's video series and classroom course or you know too little and need someone who understands the subject and connect the dots before you proceed further.
Greg Banish definitely "wrote the book"! Starting with very basic inter combustion chamber engine function you go deep into tuning fuel injection with some looks at methodology and function. Very good for Tuners. I highly recommend his "Tuning" book in conjunction with this book. Greg Banish teaches this subject quite well.
I bought this to learn more about efi tuning not get a PhD in math. Book is full of equations that are useless to the average car guy. No good info in this book. I figure the other reviews are the usual fake Amazon reviews.
The only bad thing I have to say about this is the author assumes access to a chassis dyno for calibration and tuning. Unfortunately the minimum amount of time charged for renting a dyno in my area is about the same cost as my engine and transmission cost together. Other than that one thing, this book is an excellent source of information.
Great information for anyone who wants to learn custom efi systems instead of buying off thee shelf products.
This little Book makes learning Tuning of engine management very easy. It very understandable and explains the process very well. Thank you Amazon!
